It’s actually quite easy to maintain those luscious curls. So, those who have permed your hair, not to worry. Here are some tips to help you to maintain those beautiful, sleek curls!
What you should do in the first essential 24-48 hours
1. Do not wash your hair
2. Do not comb your hair.
3. Do not tie your hair
This is to avoid your curls from deforming your hair.
What you should do during washing and styling your hair
4. Use appropriate shampoo
You should use shampoo which is specifically designed for chemically treated hair. These shampoos have gentle ingredients for your fragile hair and it will help to retain your perm. Normal shampoos may contain harsh ingredients that can be damaging to your hair.
5. Condition your hair
Plenty of natural oils and moisture can be stripped out from your hair during perming process. Using a conditioner that is specifically designed for chemically treated hair will deeply moisturizes and restores balance to your hair. Conditioning your hair can also be helpful to detangle your hair.
6. Comb your hair during conditioning
Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair while you condition your hair. This will avoid your hair to frizz and reduces damage to hair. I personally use L’oreal Paris Color Protect Conditioner which works great for my hair.
7. Towel dry your hair.
Rubbing it will lead to of hair damage and breakage which will frizz your curls. So, pat your hair with the towel instead.
Do not blow dry your hair to get rid of the excess moisture as it will cause your perm to become very frizzy. Use a diffuser with a cool setting or let your hair dry naturally.
10. Style your hair while it is still wet.
It is easier and better to style your hair while it is wet. This will also avoid your hair from frizzing.
11. Apply appropriate styling product.
Glazes, cream and gels type of styling product are better option to style your curls than mousse as most mousse contains a high amount of alcohol. I use Marin 02 M14 Moist Sculpturing Lotion to maintain soft, glossy curls which is great as it makes my hair soft and does not dry my hair.
After applying styling products, scrunch well to enhance those magnificent curls of yours while your hair is still wet.
13. Trim your hair every 4-6 weeks.
This will get rid of all those split ends and damaged ends to keep your hair healthy and spring up your curls.
So yeah. These are simple tips to maintain your beautiful curls. It's easy is't it? ;)
